Wine Spectator has just revealed the full Top 100 of 2016!

Each year, WS editors survey thousands of wines and select the Top 100, based on quality, value, availability and excitement.

While the first 3 wines are Americans, Italians wines ranked quiet well: 2 made it in the Top 10, total of 13 were included in the Top 100 (8 from Tuscany, 2 from Piedmont, 1 from Umbria, 1 from Basilicata and 1 from Sardinia).

ASC World Wine Tour: 130 wines from 20 renowned wineries from around the world.

Started the tasting with some fine white such as:

  • Louis Jadot Bourgogne Chardonnay AOC
  • Trimbach Riesling Alsace AOC
  • Trimbach Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Émile Riesling Alsace AOC
  • Trimbach Gewurztraminer Alsace AOC

Then moved to top Italian reds, such as:

  • AloisLageder Pinot Noir Alto Adige DOC 2013
  • Michele Chiarlo Tortoniano Barolo Riserva DOCG 2009
  • Banfi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011 (super rich and well balanced, the king of my tasting)
  • Masi Costasera Amarone Riserva DOC 2009

Finished with 4 different Ports from Taylor and Fonseca, from aged Tawny to Late Bottled Vintage.

6 billion coffee cups (including espresso and cappuccino) are served in Italian “bar” in a year with a turnover of 6.6 billion Euros and an average of 175 daily coffee served in every coffee shop.

Considering the Italian population between 18 and 65 years old is 34,7 million, that means every other Italian buys a cup of coffee in a bar daily.

While Italian bars brew 17 million cups per day, the whole world enjoys an astonishing number of 2 billion cup a day (read the BBC News article)

Introduction to the World of Wine course

Shanghai, September 3 and 4, 2016 - Italian Sommelier Association - club Shanghai held the first Introduction to the World of Wine seminar in Shanghai. The 2-days, 10-hours seminar was taught in English to an international group of 17 wine enthusiasts (from China, Italy, Philippines, Brazil) and included 4 lessons and 16 different wines.

Champagne: in 2015 produced 312 million bottles by Italian Wine & Food in China

Overall, in 2015, Champagne cellars have produced 312,531,444 bottles, with a +1.7% growth and a turnover of 4.75 billion Euros (average 15.2 Euros per bottle), which represents the best commercial performance in the Champagne history.

Italy continues growing its purchases of Champagne, in 2015 with 6.3 million bottles ordered it is the seventh export market for this famous French wine.
