Undiscover NZ Masterclass by Stephen Wong MW
Shanghai (China), May 25, 2018 – The Pure Discovery events promote New Zealand culture, tourism, food and wine. Okura Garden Hotel in downtown Shanghai hosted the event including masterclasses and wine tastings.
Vito Donatiello participated in the exclusive “Undiscover NZ – A Taste Of The Unexpected” Masterclass led by Stephen Wong MW. Based on New Zealand, in 2016 Stephen Wong became the 12th “kiwi” Master of Wine.
- New Zealand wine < 1% total world wine production (volume)
- 98% of NZ vineyard producing area is certified sustainable winegrowing
- 7% of which is certified organic winegrowing
- Sauvignon Blanc is the most planted varietal with 21.400 ha
- Marlborough is the largest Sauvignon Blanc wine region with 19.000 ha, Hawke’s Bay is the far second with only 940 ha
- Pinot Noir is the second most planted varietal with 5.500 ha
- Marlborough is again the largest Pinot Noir wine region with 2.600 ha, Central Otago second with 1.500 he, Wairarapa third with 500 ha
